EFI Testing complete!!!

Well EFI kit testing is complete, we used two test cars for validation of the kit.

The first was a Full ACR 2.5 motor, Series 3 88″ From Mahker of Defender fame, this car can now be hired out for weddings if anyone is interested.

With the ACR Carb and 123 Mappable Dizzy it made 96hp and 142nm torque.

With our EFI kit is plulled 105hp and 150nm.

Its quite lively as you can imagine with so much torque everywhere it will even travel at walking pace in fourth gear at idle!!

The ACR kit is the best carb setup available and the same can be said about the 123 dizzy so we didn’t expect to get as bigger gains as we did but it shows the true potential of these motors when a quality kit is used.

The Second Vehicle is a Series 2a, 88″ with stock motor, quite a tired motor too with 125 psi on two cylinders and 110 and 105 on the final two. It also has two bad tappets which wouldn’t allow accurate valve clearances to be achieved. It is a daily driver though and I think it represents the average engine condition so was a perfect candidate for our lower performance tests.

Running the reliable Weber carb and electronic ignition pickup, it had already been setup on a dyno years before so we checked it all out and low and behold it was still spot on.

It achieved 59hp at the crank and 126nm Torque which considering the engine condition and the slightly smaller Weber I think it did very well indeed. Most owners switch to the weber from the Solex or Zenith for reliability which it does as the cheap Chinese copies are terrible and the old original ones all need full rebuilds and replacement parts are not up to standard.

Next we fitted our EFI kit and it really surprised us by making 70hp at the crank and 138nm Torque. This figure blew us away a bit. A tired engine making the same power as what a freshly rebuilt one would but even better was the big Torque increase. However look at the graph, the peak figures are impressive but it doesn;t tell the full story. The gains are right across the graph.

Red is crank power, Blue is power at the wheels and Orange is Torque.

What a tremendous difference, drivability is truly night and day different as you can imagine. The lightest throttle maintains cruising speeds. Increase in MPG is easy estimate as so little throttle is required.

Testing…….

We have had a few people complain about the cost of this bespoke EFI kit, even though there are no bespoke kits available from anyone else, even the sniper doesn’t come with all the brackets and in base form doesn’t even control ignition, not to mention the overly small throttle body but I’m getting away from the point.

We chose quality parts to make the kit much better. We could have just thrown Mega jolt in there with just the basic map and a generic throttle body from a motorcycle but you simply wouldn’t get the performance or drivability our kit offers. See below graph.

We compared our ATpower throttle body to a standard competitors throttle body both the same size.

Using the amazing Tech the HybridTune dyno offers you, you can see the difference.

Part throttle on the ATpower throttle body was so superior not to mention more power and more torque right from idle all the way through. You can build budget EFI kits for less but the experience you get from a quality product like this one you will feel on every drive. Made in the UK too!!! A big thank you to Specialist Components for helping us with this project. They have been developing this EFI type setup for 20 years so they know how to get the best results and reliability.

Kits are now available to order, get in touch to discuss your needs. We can offer fitting and custom mapping or you can load a base map and adjust it your self. There is even software in the ECU to allow a Spartan Wide band controller to auto map the fuelling.  I think we have covered all the based for an amazing EFI kit and we are proud of the end product.
